Dountonia Batts
As a DEI and racial equity practitioner, consultant, advocate and educator, Dountonia S. Batts has 17+ years of experience partnering with government agencies, organizations, academic institutions, businesses, campaigns, faith-based initiatives and communities seeking to advance their mission by promoting DEI values for the benefit and development of their workforce and communities served, while helping them enhance their business practices and decision-making processes. As the principal consultant for Scriptura Strategies, Dountonia prioritizes relationship-building and service in order to design effective strategies for integrating DEI principles into organizational practices while ensuring that each process is tailored to every clients’ unique brand, mission, and goals. Dountonia resides in Indianapolis and is married to Dr. Ramon L. Batts who is the pastor of Greater Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church and a public high school administrator They have eight successful children between them. |
Phil Harris
Dr. Phillip Harris is a life long educator with teaching experience at the elementary and university level. He and his wife Joan Harris published a book titled The Myths of Standardized Tests. Dr. Harris has been a long time member of ICPE and continues to support public education. He is currently the Executive Director of the Association for Educational Communications & Technology, a professional association of scholars and researchers dedicated to using technology to improve learning. |
Lacy Hawkins
Lacy Hawkins is a social studies teacher at Bedford North Lawrence High School and is President of the North Lawrence Education Association. She has a bachelor's degree in history from Indiana University and a master's degree in history from American Military University. Her husband Brian is an English teacher at BNLHS and is also active with the state and local union. They are both proud public school graduates and choose to return as teachers to the public school system that was so shaping and influential in their lives. |
Steve Hinnefeld
Steve Hinnefeld has been a newspaper reporter, a media relations professional and a journalism teacher. He writes School Matters, a blog about education in Indiana. He has three grown children, all of whom attended Monroe County public schools, and three grandchildren. |

Byron R. Turner II
Byron R. Turner II is a Community Member that cares deeply for the well-being of those around him. His path through life has been unorthodox, with professional experiences ranging from business, public education, international non-profit management, criminal justice, and child welfare. With a passion for servant leadership, Byron served his community as a City of Bloomington Commissioner on the Status of Black Males, President of the Monroe County Black Democratic Caucus, as a member on a number of local non-profit boards, and on various community task forces. Byron’s dedication derives from his belief in the common good. |
