INDIANA COALITION FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION PRESENTS
“LIBRARIANS LEAD: BEST PRACTICES IN MCCSC SCHOOL LIBRARIES"
A forum to highlight how school librarians support students’ educational outcomes
Bloomington, Indiana—Why are strong school libraries are essential to a good education? A full-time, certified school librarian with a well-resourced library yields far better educational outcomes, as evidenced in several research studies. Want to know more about our school libraries? Community members are welcomed to attend "Librarians Lead: Best Practices in MCCSC School Libraries " featuring a panel discussion by local librarians on Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Room 1B at the Monroe County Public Library, 303 E Kirkwood Ave, Bloomington.
Five librarians will discuss how they encourage a love of reading in students, collaborate with classroom teachers on the curriculum, and foster a vibrant environment for literacy and learning at their schools. The forum will explore how we can strive for equitable access to librarians across all MCCSC schools.
Librarian/media specialists on the panel include: Judy Williams, Childs Elementary School; Jaime Burkhardt, Batchelor Middle School; Kathy Loser, Bloomington High School North, Sharon Roualet, RBB – Edgewood; and Lisa Champelli, Children's Services at the Monroe County Public Library.
Audience members will be invited to ask questions after the panel presentation. MCCSC school board members and candidates are also invited to attend.
This event is sponsored by the Indiana Coalition for Public Education--Monroe County and South Central Indiana (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Monroe-County-Coalition-Public-Education/374573205902510).
