INDIANA COALITION FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION PRESENTS FORUM FOR MCCSC SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES
District 1 and District 7 candidates will introduce themselves, answer audience questions

Bloomington, Indiana—Voters will have an opportunity to hear from MCCSC school board candidates in the two contested races at a forum on Thursday, October 16, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., in the Bloomington City Hall Council Chambers at 401 N. Morton St.

School board members make decisions about the policies and practices in our schools. They can have a strong impact on our schools’ culture and on how school leaders engage our community. While district boundaries limit who can compete for a spot on the board, all MCCSC voters vote for all districts. Five candidates are running in District 1: Larry Barber, Chuck Holloway, Ray McConn, Joshua Paul, and incumbent Kelly Smith. In District 7, incumbent Jeanine Butler faces challenger Brandon Shurr. (Incumbent Martha Street is unopposed in District 3.)

After introducing themselves, candidates will answer a series of questions, with a one-minute time limit for each answer. Topics may include—but are certainly not limited to—the calendar, the lengthened school day, teacher evaluation, charter schools, standardized testing, and lack of adequate funding from the state. Questions for candidates may be submitted in advance to icpe.mc@gmail.com as well as at the forum.

This event is sponsored by the Indiana Coalition for Public Education--Monroe County and South Central Indiana (http://icpe-monroecounty.weebly.com/).
