Kirkwood Avenue in Bloomington. School board members make decisions about the policies and practices in our schools. They can have a strong impact on our schools’ culture and on how school leaders engage our community. While district boundaries limit who can compete for a spot on the board, all MCCSC voters vote for all districts. Four candidates are running in District 1: Eric Breidenstein, Jane Gouker, Thao Nelson, and Elizabeth Ruh. In District 3, incumbent Martha Street faces challenger Byron Turner. Brandon Shurr is unopposed in District 7. After introducing themselves, candidates will answer a series of questions, with answers limited to one and a half minutes. Topics may include—but are certainly not limited to—technology/screen time, school safety, class sizes, charter schools, standardized testing, and lack of adequate funding from the state. Questions for candidates may be submitted in advance to [email protected] as well as at the forum. This event is organized by the Indiana Coalition for Public Education–Monroe County (www.icpe-monroecounty.org) and co-sponsored by the Monroe County Education Association. ### For further information, please contact Jenny Robinson at 812-325-3551. |
