Good evening. My name is Mike Wilcox, Superintendent of the Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corporation. RBBCSC is not in favor of the Seven Oaks Charter, or any charter in Monroe County. Monroe County has 2 outstanding public school corporations, with alternative choices already in place.
RBBCSC is an incredibly strong school corporation because of our community's educational resources, energy, talent, and people power in the form of teachers, students, and parents contributing to our school corporation identity, culture, direction, and growth. RBBCSC offers students a viable, guaranteed and flexible curriculum responsive to their unique and differentiated learning needs. Our parents and community expect and receive from R-BB a high quality education that prepares our children for success beyond high school in a 21st century global economy.
R-BB offers 4 schools that received an A rating from the State of Indiana, with 1 being a 4-star; 19 varsity sports; multiple academic clubs; a show choir program ranked 19th in the nation, and an all-state marching band program that will perform Saturday at 10:13 a.m. in the state finals for the 9th straight year!
The only thing that is public about a public charter school is that it is funded with public tax dollars. Whether I am an educator or not, I disagree with this fundamentally. Regardless, I question why Monroe County continues to be a targeted potential destination, where this bid has failed 2 previous times in the last 2 years, and in a facility that was exited by the public schools 13 years ago. Thank you.
