A. State ICPE Board of Directors
R. Fierst: Our meeting in New Albany drew around 30 people, about twenty of whom were teachers. Rocky Killion was there. Next week is the Evansville meeting. R. Fierst will get Ann Inness’ contact information to Cathy. Cathy suggested the piece “First They Came for Our Local Control…” and will e-mail a copy to Roger. He would also like a pdf of the grade sheet for legislators.
R. Fierst: the ISBA director just retired. The new director is going to lead the organization with more forceful concern about environment for public schools.
R. Fierst: Brian Bosma is talking about trying to reduce the disparity in the per-pupil amount that Indiana funds schools. Currently there is a formula that takes into account free-and-reduced lunch rates and number of ELL students, so high-need urban districts receive more per-pupil funding. In the name of equity, Bosma wants to cut funds to urban schools.
