LOCAL ADVOCATES AND EDUCATORS PRESENT WEST LAFAYETTE DOCUMENTARY ON PUBLIC EDUCATION AND SCHOOL REFORMS
 
 
Bloomington, Indiana—Local stakeholders invite the community to Rise Above the Mark, an ambitious Indiana documentary that examines public school realities, on Wednesday, September 24, 6:30 p.m., at Bloomington High School North, 3901 N. Kinser Pike.  A panel discussion will follow the film.

Produced by Indiana’s West Lafayette Community School Corporation, Rise Above the Mark focuses on Indiana’s struggles with public school reforms—the same types of struggles experienced in schools throughout the United States.  Experts Diane Ravitch, Linda Darling-Hammond, Pasi Sahlberg and others discuss how America can make positive changes to provide an exceptional public school system for all children.

Following the hour-long film, a panel of local education experts will share their personal reactions and respond to questions from the audience. The producer of the documentary, West Lafayette Superintendent Rocky Killion, will introduce the film to the audience and participate on the panel. Additional panelists are Dr. Judith DeMuth, superintendent of Monroe County Community School Corporation, Dr. Gerardo Gonzalez, dean of the Indiana University School of Education, and Erika Peek, a teacher from Summit Elementary.  The event will conclude by suggesting several actions communities can take to help support public education.
