Seven Oaks Classical School board meeting, 3-22-2018
*Requirement that students turn 5 by August 1 to attend Kindergarten
*Two board members will attend Grace College Education Leadership summit
*Open enrollment for next school year ended 3/9/18 with 98% of current students intending to return
*Hoping to have approx 280 students next year (this is what they need to continue to pay their loan) which is a 1% $2 million loan with monthly payment of $21,500
*Planning to hire teachers through Hillsdale or IU School of Ed
*CSP: Grant was denied although they allegedly earned a high score
*12.... 2nd & 4th grade students had to be denied admission due to lack of teachers
*Considering opening a community preschool to be housed in the empty part of the school building
-play based pre-school
-core knowledge foundation
-early literacy
-will require a full time director that will report to 7 Oaks headmaster and 2 teachers/aides
-to be funded by tuition payments
-Goal: prepare students to enter their kindergarten but will not necessarily guarantee admission to 7 Oaks
*7 Oaks is planning to charge parents for late pick up beginning Fall 2018
*2 students expelled from other schools are seeking enrollment to 7 Oaks. There was a lengthy discussion regarding any admission conditions the state will allow them to enforce. They will consider them only if they are "worthwhile candidates". They are drafting a policy that will require the parent/guardian to complete an application and supply them with the reason for the expulsion. They will request transcripts, consent to allow 7 Oaks to perform a background check on student (student's family will be responsible for all expenses related to background check). Student and family will be required to meet with headmaster and at least one board member for interview "to get a feel for the student and parent." Student will have to sign a "one strike you're out" contract, at which time enrollment will be conditional. They will accept only "low risk" students in hopes they will be able to recruit their siblings as students.
